This list of recommended books is not intended to be comprehensive but represents a selection which I found interesting or useful in one way or another. The following two books can be singled out as containing particularly strong technical advice and clear tutorials:
Barrett, Robert, Life Drawing: How to Portray the Figure with Accuracy and Expression, North Light Books, 2008.
Raynes, John, Figure Drawing & Anatomy for the Artist, Chancellor Press, 1993.
Raynes has also produced an extremely clear and inspiring instructional DVD entitled Drawing & Painting People
Painters-Online the website for Leisure Painter and The Artist magazines. A friendly community site for artists of all abilities.
Figure Drawing for all it's Worth by Andrew Loomis.
The late American illustrator and artist who wrote a number of popular books covering a wide range of art techniques, including an entire book on drawing the figure. Click the above link to download a PDF copy.
